oh to be a mermaid…

oh to be a mermaid

oh to be a mermaid

so free without care

floating through warm water

never knowing dispare

to be a mermaid

to watch bubbles rise

slowly to the surface

every possible size

to comb my long hair

to bask in the sun

that shines through the waves

to love every one

two days of texture fun!

After seeing Kelly-Rae and Emily’s groovy mixed-media images, I felt inspired!!!  I felt inspired to try something new!!  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right ladies?? Ha ha.  Thanks for the inspiration girls :)  It has been fun playing around with new textures, shapes and colors over the last two days.

art

Above Right:  “Perfectly Imperfect” (March 21 2009, mixed media)

A personal piece dealing with my deep love and compassion for my beautiful daughter.

Above Left:  “Two Peas” (March 21 2009, mixed media)

A portrait of two women who I think are most excellent human beings – you know who you are :)

I love experimenting with art!  “Don’t think, just create” – who said that?  Whoever it was, has discovered the secret to creating art.  Don’t think, just create!  The perfectionist within has stopped me from finishing or being happy with art so often in the past.  Over thinking and over-analyzing each thing that left my hand took the joy of creation away from me.  There is a certain feeling of freedom that comes from not thinking, just creating.  It is liberating and feels quite wonderful!  And interestingly, I have finished so much more art since adopting this attitude and have been so much happier with what I have produced.  Art is much more therapeutic for me now rather than being a source of a perfectionists discontent.

spring is thinking about it!!!!

Phoenix and Isis helped me sow some seeds today!  What a magnificent day.  We stripped off and lived in the warm, sunny yard all day.  Phoenix ate dirt and looked like an earth child – so she had to have a bubble bath in a bucket in the sunshine!  (Naturally!)  Isis walked bare-foot through the melting snow, then came back to show us his freezing toes with glee.  What a day!  Picnics with the kitties next door, a snooze in the sun, digging in the dirt, swinging up high, blowing bubbles and splashing with water!  Lots of dancing and laughter too.

Today was a very good day.  :)

recreating 1870

church-history-short-film1

I just had two days of fun, recreating 1870 in a short film for the LDS Museum here in Salt Lake City.  I was working with Lindey doing hair and makeup (very little  makeup, lots of hair) at the Motion Picture Studio in Provo.  I slept on my sister Candice’s world famous marshmallow-couch at night (love that couch) and was at the studio early each morning (the stars were still shining).  Despite the early mornings, I had a really fabulous time surrounded by good people, yummy food and some cute-as-anything children.

Sometimes it is nice to think about something else for a couple of days :)

why do people lie?

why-do-people-lie

“The man who fights too long against dragons, becomes a dragon himself…”

It is not the act of lying that is upsetting – it is the sad fact that believing this person in the future is so infinitely more difficult.  The truth may hurt for a little while, but lies hurt for so much longer.  How do you grow to trust a person that has lied or is currently lying?  And does the trust ever truly grow back?

Yes, I think so.  Afterall, to trust is a choice and we have power over our choices.

Nevertheless, may I always tell the truth, even when it hurts.  And may I love the liar, difficult as that may be at first.

real life through the eyes of a seven year old…

Isis discovered my camera today… and how fun taking photos can be!  He especially loved making his clone troopers look like a pile of dead clone troopers.  Phoenix thought it was great fun waking up to a camera in her face, held by her big brother Isis.

Real life, through the eyes of a seven year old…  *happiness*

what was the last brave thing i did…?

what-was-the-last-brave-thing-i-did

52Q -Question 9

What was the last brave thing I did?

- A Mini Art Journal Weekly Challenge

http://embers.typepad.com/e/52Q/

I love this project!  I found this challenge on my girlfriend Emily’s blog

What a fabulous blog and what a beautiful collection of people who follow Emily’s lovely life and are inspired by her positive creativity.  Dozens of people do these art projects and gain a lot of positivity by it.  Emily is asking a different question each week for the entire year – hence it being called the 52Q Challenge.

If you would like to join in on the fun too and do your own, remember to share

Here is the last brave thing I personally did and my artwork expressing it:

The last brave thing I did was carry my daughters non-responsive body into the emergency room, knowing she was in respiratory failure, not knowing how we would pay the intensive care bill, but knowing that she needed more help than I could give…

I am a lot braver now than I was when my son almost died from RSV.  With the amount of Intensive Care visits and close calls my children have had with their muscular dystrophy over the last 7 years, I know more and knowing more helps with the fear. But still, walking in to that emergency room, my knees felt weak and my eyes stung with the tears of fear I struggled to keep from spilling over – if I let one drop onto my cheek, then all composure would be lost and all strength would have melted into a pool of uselessness. I had to be brave. I needed to speak with the doctors and staff.  I needed to teach them about this rare muscular dystrophy and what it does to my children and what they needed to do to help her.  I needed to hold it together, for just a bit longer.

I had to be brave.

And yet, my children are infinitely so much braver than I…

Phoenix and Isis constantly amaze me with their bravery.  My life is so much better and deeper because of their presence in it.

until next time, san diego…

san-diego-beach

Dear San Diego,

Thank you so much for having me.  What a beautiful place you are.  My batteries feel recharged to maximum and an early mid-life mega-crisis averted – and it is all because of you (and the sunshine and Ti-Pea and Anna-Pea-Nana).  Thanks San Diego.

Until next time…

Much love and appreciation,

Jasmine
