the best things about autumn
The best things about autumn to me, are the way the leaves sound when they crunch under foot; the way the apples smell as they cook. The way the sun shines through the leaves; the way the clouds come low and kiss the eves. The way the mountains look like they’re on fire; mud as sticky as a mire. Happy children exploring their world; scrunching up leaves with edges curled.

A Fall Song
by Ellen Robena Field
Golden and red trees
Nod to the soft breeze,
As it whispers, “Winter is near;”
And the brown nuts fall
At the wind’s loud call,
For this is the Fall of the year.
Good-by, sweet flowers!
Through bright Summer hours
You have filled our hearts with cheer
We shall miss you so,
And yet you must go,
For this is the Fall of the year.
Now the days grow cold,
As the year grows old,
And the meadows are brown and sere;
Brave robin redbreast
Has gone from his nest,
For this is the Fall of the year.
I do softly pray
At the close of day,
That the little children, so dear,
May as purely grow
As the fleecy snow
That follows the Fall of the year.

I love that you are enjoying the sights and sounds and smells of autumn while I am here marveling at the wonder of spring! The world is a wonderful place, and even more wonderful because even though we are opposite sides of the world we can come online and share it!
Agreed!! Autumn is so great…
Cute kiddos! :)
What a beautiful way to express the transition from summer to fall… Personally I prefer the promise of spring, but I do love the warm colours of fall too (just not the grey and rainy weather;-) ).

i remember your fall photos from last year, just beautiful. love the colours.
The only thing more wondrous than Nature, an all that it can do for our souls, and spirits, is seeing children enjoying it. I still marvel every day at how we have become so detached from the world. Nature can provide so much for us, peace, food, joy, feelings, and more. I still can’t wrap my head around how many Apples can grow on a single tree. Or how many leaves can fall from that same tree.
